I think given that I am starting a new job next week at Hyundai Canada I should get into the spirit of things a bit and buy this baby. What could possibly go wrong?

Was a mega success in Canada so definitely not rare (maybe nowadays), but important for Hyundai at least. From Wikipedia:
“Initial projections for 1984 called for 5,000 sales, but the final total was an astounding 25,123, making the Pony one of Canada ’s best selling cars that year.”

That’s interesting. 5 times sales projections ain’t bad. There probably aren’t may survivors because why would you save one? So, this one deserves preservation.

Well an original Mini is my dream car and since my gf and I don’t even have room for one of those right now (apartment living...) this is probably going to have to remain a strange dream.

You absolutely should. I’ve applied to a number of jobs at Hyundai USA over the years, and it was always in the back of my mind that, if successful, I’d go ahead and track down a Pony as a second car.
Who knows, it may still happen.
